DENTAL DISCOMFORT

There are many times when we feel discomfort or pain in our mouths and do not know where it came from or how to treat it In many cases, we do not know whether it is something that can simply be ignored, or if dental intervention is necessary. Here are a few common oral phenomena that can be worth a trip the dentist!

Almost any toothache is a legitimate reason to contact your dentist right away. Pain in the teeth or gums often indicates a cavity brewing, or even potential nerve damage. There are a variety of dental diagnosis which pain in the teeth or gums is a sign of, so don’t wait to see the dentist – handle it when it first occurs. Dental X-Rays will likely be taken to diagnose the root of the problem. An over the counter pain medication or topical gel may be taken to alleviate pain temporarily.

Bleeding Gums Bleeding gums are pretty common for most people. Minor bleeding every once in awhile shouldn’t be ignored, but monitoring for increased severity is usually enough of a precaution. However, if the gums are consistently bleeding each time you brush or floss, see your dentist immediately. This is one of the most obvious signs of periodontal, or gum disease.

Breaking or chipping teeth is another very common occurrence for most. When this happens, it is important to remain calm. Always save whatever remnants you can of this tooth and contact your dentist for an immediate appointment. If swelling occurs, take ibuprofen to reduce this symptom and decrease inflammation.

Bleeding in the mouth can be caused by a variety of illnesses or injuries. Biting the lips, interior cheek area or tongue can be quite painful. In some cases, this can even cause severe puncture wounds from the teeth, bleeding and inflammation. Remember to always rinse the area first. Using a cold cloth is the best option. Next, it is important to reduce the amount of blood loss and swelling, so apply steady pressure and ice to the area for 10 minute intervals. Over the counter pain medication is also recommended in such cases.

At Fun Dental Care we consider that our job includes working to prevent these problems from occurring. By educating you and following up to get the regular cleanings and fillings done as needed. And detecting and handling when problems arise to keep them from worsening.
